Description

These vegan brownies offer a rich, fudgy texture with a deep chocolate flavor, perfect for a plant-based dessert craving. Made without eggs or dairy, they combine cocoa, brown and white sugars, and vegetable oil for a moist and delicious treat. Optional nuts and chocolate chips add extra texture and indulgence.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (divided)
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil

Optional Add-ins

  • 1/2 cup nuts (chopped, optional)
  • 1/2 cup vegan chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350ºF (175ºC) to prepare for baking the brownies.
  2. Prepare Flour-Water Paste: In a saucepan over low heat, combine 1 cup of the flour and the water. Stir constantly until the mixture thickens to a gluey paste consistency. This step helps bind the ingredients without eggs.
  3. Cool Mixture: Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the flour-water paste cool completely before proceeding to the next step.
  4. Combine Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, mix together the brown sugar, white sugar, salt, vanilla extract, cocoa powder, and vegetable oil thoroughly.
  5. Add Flour-Water Paste: Incorporate the cooled flour-water mixture into the sugar and cocoa mixture, stirring well to combine all ingredients evenly.
  6. Mix Remaining Dry Ingredients: Add the remaining 1 cup of flour along with the baking powder. If using, fold in the nuts and chocolate chips at this stage for added texture and flavor.
  7. Prepare Pan: Grease an 11x7-inch baking pan to prevent sticking. Spread the batter evenly into the pan to ensure even baking.
  8. Bake Brownies: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for about 25 minutes. The brownies are done when a knife inserted into the center comes out clean or with just a few moist crumbs attached.
  9. Cool and Serve: Allow the brownies to cool in the pan before cutting into 16 pieces. Serve and enjoy your vegan brownies!

Notes

  • For a richer taste, use high-quality cocoa powder.
  • Optional nuts can be walnuts, pecans, or almonds based on preference.
  • Ensure the flour-water paste is completely cooled to avoid cooking the batter prematurely.
  • Store brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for longer freshness.
  • These brownies are perfect for those following a vegan lifestyle and can be made gluten-free by substituting the flour with a gluten-free blend.
