Description

This Texas Toast French Dip recipe combines crispy garlic Texas toast, melted provolone cheese, and warm roast beef served with flavorful au jus gravy for a delicious and easy-to-make sandwich perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 box frozen garlic Texas Toast (8 slices)
  • 1 packet au jus gravy mix
  • 3 cups cold water
  • 1 pound sliced deli roast beef
  • 8 slices provolone cheese
  • Dried parsley, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a sheet tray with parchment paper to prevent sticking and for easy cleanup.
  2. Cook the Texas Toast: Place the frozen garlic Texas Toast on the prepared sheet tray and bake for about 8 minutes, flipping the slices halfway through to ensure even toasting.
  3. Prepare the au jus: While the toast is baking, prepare the au jus gravy by mixing 1 packet of au jus gravy mix with 3 cups of cold water, following the package directions, and heat until warmed through.
  4. Warm the roast beef: Once the au jus is ready, submerge or warm the sliced deli roast beef in the hot au jus to heat it up and infuse flavor.
  5. Assemble the sandwiches: Place a half slice of provolone cheese on top of each cooked Texas toast slice.
  6. Add the roast beef: Evenly distribute the warmed roast beef slices on top of the cheese-covered toast slices.
  7. Top with remaining cheese: Place the remaining half slices of provolone cheese on top of the roast beef to create a cheesy layer on each sandwich.
  8. Melt the cheese: Return the assembled sandwiches to the oven and bake for an additional 3-5 minutes or until the provolone cheese has fully melted and become bubbly.
  9. Garnish and serve: Optionally sprinkle dried parsley on top for garnish, then serve each sandwich immediately with a side of the warm au jus for dipping.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add sautéed onions or peppers to the roast beef before assembling the sandwiches.
  • Use fresh provolone slices if possible for the best melting quality.
  • If you want a crispier toast, broil the sandwiches for 1-2 minutes after melting the cheese but watch carefully to avoid burning.
  • Leftover au jus can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated for dipping.
  • Substitute roast beef with another deli meat if preferred, though it may alter the flavor profile.
