Description

Taco Pizza Rolls are a fun and flavorful twist on traditional pizza and tacos, combining seasoned ground beef, melted cheese, and classic taco toppings all rolled up in a crispy pizza crust. Perfect for parties or a quick family meal, these rolls can be smoked for added depth of flavor or baked in the oven for convenience.

Ingredients

Meat Filling

  • ½ lb ground beef
  • ½ cup diced onion
  • 1 tbsp taco seasoning mix

Base

  • 1 can Pillsbury refrigerated classic pizza crust

Toppings & Garnishes

  • 1 cup Cheddar cheese or Mexican blend, shredded
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ½ cup guacamole
  • 2 medium Roma tomatoes, diced
  • ½ cup lettuce, shredded
  • ¼ cup onion, diced
  • ¼ cup cheddar cheese, shredded (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Cooking Device: Preheat your smoker or oven to 425°F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
  2. Cook the Beef Mixture: In a medium skillet over medium-high heat, cook the diced onion and ground beef until the meat is browned and no longer pink. Drain most of the excess grease for a less oily filling.
  3. Season the Beef: Stir in the taco seasoning mix. Allow it to simmer on medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes so the flavors meld, then remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
  4. Prepare the Dough: Unroll the Pillsbury pizza crust onto a flat surface, ideally over parchment paper to prevent sticking. Gently press or roll the dough into a rectangle shape for easy rolling.
  5. Assemble the Rolls: Evenly spread the seasoned beef mixture over the dough, then sprinkle the shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheese on top.
  6. Roll and Slice: Starting from the long side, tightly roll the dough into a log. Using a serrated knife, cut the log into 1-inch thick slices, aiming for about 18 rolls.
  7. Arrange for Cooking: Place the sliced rolls on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them slightly apart to allow for even cooking.
  8. Cook the Rolls: Smoke the rolls in a pellet grill for 15 to 25 minutes or bake in the oven for 10 to 12 minutes (or according to pizza crust package instructions), until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Serve and Garnish: Serve the rolls warm and top with your favorite taco condiments such as sour cream, guacamole, diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, diced onion, and an extra sprinkle of cheddar cheese.

Notes

  • You can opt to bake the rolls in the oven if you don't have a smoker—both methods yield delicious results.
  • Be sure to drain the excess grease after cooking the beef to keep the rolls from becoming too oily.
  • To make slicing easier and neater, chill the rolled dough for 10 minutes before cutting if time allows.
  • Feel free to customize toppings according to your taste—jalapeños or salsa would make great additions.
  • Using parchment paper on the baking sheet prevents sticking and helps with easy cleanup.
