Description

A refreshing and vibrant Strawberry Basil Lemonade combining fresh lemon juice, ripe strawberries, and fragrant basil, sweetened naturally with honey or agave. This cool, tangy beverage is perfect for hot days and gatherings, offering a delightful balance of fruitiness and herbal notes.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 7 whole strawberries
  • 15 basil leaves (or to taste)
  • 5 tablespoons honey or agave (plus more to taste)
  • 7 sliced strawberries
  • 3 cups ice (plus more as needed)
  • 5-6 cups water (flat or sparkling)
  • 5 basil blossoms for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Strawberry Basil Puree: In the bowl of a small food processor or blender, combine 1 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice, 7 whole strawberries, and 5 basil leaves. Process this mixture until it is smooth and fully blended.
  2. Mix the Lemonade Base: Pour the strawberry-basil puree into a large pitcher. Stir in 5 tablespoons of honey or agave syrup to sweeten. Next, add 5 to 6 cups of your choice of filtered flat or sparkling water and stir well to combine all flavors. Taste and adjust sweetness with more honey or agave if necessary.
  3. Add Garnishes and Chill: Incorporate the 7 sliced strawberries and the remaining 10 basil leaves into the pitcher. Refrigerate the lemonade until it is thoroughly chilled. When ready to serve, pour over plenty of ice and garnish with small basil leaves and optional basil blossoms for an elegant presentation.

Notes

  • Use freshly squeezed lemon juice for the best bright, tart flavor.
  • Adjust the sweetness by adding more honey or agave according to your preference.
  • Sparking water adds a fun fizz but flat water can be used for a still lemonade.
  • Crushing the basil slightly before blending can enhance its aroma.
  • Serve immediately after chilling for optimal freshness, or store in the refrigerator up to 2 days.
