Ingredients
Noodles
- 3 (3-ounce) packages instant ramen noodles, flavor packets discarded
Sauce
- ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce
- ¼ cup oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar (optional)
- ½ to 1 teaspoon chili sauce (such as sambal)
- ¼ cup water
Aromatics & Garnish
- 2 tablespoons toasted sesame oil
- 2 teaspoons minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
- 4 green onions, thinly sliced
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
Instructions
- Cook the noodles: Bring a large pot of water to a boil over high heat. Add the instant ramen noodles and cook according to package instructions, about 3 minutes, until al dente. Drain the noodles and set aside.
- Make the sauce: While the noodles are cooking, in a small bowl whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar (if using), chili sauce, and water until well combined.
- Cook the aromatics: Heat the toasted sesame oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is hot and shimmering, add the minced garlic and freshly grated ginger. Cook, stirring frequently, until fragrant, about 1 minute, being careful not to burn the garlic.
- Combine and finish: Pour the prepared sauce into the skillet with the aromatics. Let it simmer gently for 3 to 4 minutes until it slightly thickens. Then add the cooked ramen noodles to the skillet and toss well to coat the noodles evenly in the sauce. Continue cooking for another 3 minutes until noodles are heated through.
- Garnish and serve: Remove from heat and garnish with thinly sliced green onions and sprinkling of sesame seeds. Serve the sesame garlic ramen noodles hot and enjoy immediately.
Notes
- You can adjust the amount of chili sauce to control the level of spiciness to your preference.
- For a vegetarian version, substitute oyster sauce with mushroom stir-fry sauce or hoisin sauce.
- Use low-sodium soy sauce to reduce salt content.
- Add cooked vegetables or proteins like tofu, chicken, or shrimp for a more complete meal.
- To toast sesame seeds, lightly brown them in a dry skillet over medium heat until fragrant.
