A crunchy and flavorful homemade granola recipe combining the natural sweetness of honey with a touch of salt and a mix of nuts and seeds. This salted honey nut granola is perfect for breakfast or a healthy snack, featuring a beautifully toasted golden color and a satisfying crisp texture.
Ingredients
Wet Ingredients
- 1/3 cup olive oil
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Dry Ingredients
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 cups old fashioned oats
- 1 1/2 cups quick oats
- 2/3 cup raw whole nuts (pecans and almonds)
- 1/3 cup raw seeds (pepitas)
- Generous pinch flakey sea salt for topping
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Adjust the oven rack to the middle position and preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C). Line a half sheet pan with parchment paper and set it aside to prepare for baking.
- Prepare the Wet Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the olive oil, honey, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until you achieve a smooth and fully combined mixture.
- Mix in Dry Ingredients: Add the old fashioned oats, quick oats, raw whole nuts (pecans and almonds), and raw seeds (pepitas) to the wet mixture. Stir thoroughly until all the oats and nuts are evenly coated with the wet mixture.
- Spread the Granola: Transfer your granola mixture onto the lined sheet pan. Using a spatula, gently press the mixture into a thin and even layer across the entire pan. Top the surface with a generous sprinkle of flakey sea salt for that signature salted flavor.
- Bake and Flip: Place the granola in the preheated oven. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, flipping the granola halfway through baking. After flipping, press it down again evenly with the spatula. Bake until the granola reaches a medium golden brown color, which ensures it becomes crispy and crunchy.
- Cool and Break Up: Remove the granola from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for at least one hour without disturbance. Once cooled, break the granola into your preferred sized clusters by hand and store or serve as desired.
Notes
- Make sure to bake the granola until a medium golden brown for optimal crispness.
- Flipping and pressing the granola halfway through baking helps it bake evenly and clump nicely.
- Allow the granola to cool completely before breaking it up to avoid crumbling into powder.
- You can customize the nuts and seeds based on preference or availability.
- Store granola in an airtight container to maintain freshness for up to two weeks.
