Description

Indulge in these irresistible Salted Caramel Chocolate Pretzel Bars that combine rich melted chocolate, crunchy mini pretzels, and smooth caramel, all topped with a sprinkle of coarse sea salt. Perfect for parties or a sweet treat, these bars balance sweet and salty flavors for a delightful snack or dessert.

Ingredients

Chocolate Layer

  • 12 ounces good quality semi-sweet chocolate chips, divided (8 ounces + 4 ounces)

Pretzel Layer

  • 8 ounces mini pretzel twists

Caramel Layer

  • 11 ounces caramels
  • 2 tablespoons water

Topping

  • Coarse sea salt for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Prepare the base chocolate layer: Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Melt 8 ounces of semi-sweet chocolate chips either on the stove over low heat or in the microwave using low power, stirring frequently until smooth. Spread the melted chocolate in a rectangular shape evenly onto the prepared cookie sheet.
  2. Add the pretzels: While the chocolate is still warm, press the mini pretzel twists firmly into the melted chocolate, allowing some to overlap to ensure good coverage and texture.
  3. Prepare the caramel layer: Unwrap the caramels and melt them with about 2 tablespoons of water. This can be done on the stove over low heat or in the microwave in short bursts, stirring frequently to prevent burning until the caramel is fully melted and smooth. Pour the melted caramel evenly over the pretzels on the chocolate base.
  4. Top with remaining chocolate and sea salt: Melt the remaining 4 ounces of semi-sweet chocolate chips using the same method as before. Drizzle this melted chocolate over the caramel layer in an attractive pattern. Immediately sprinkle coarse sea salt evenly over the chocolate drizzle for a sweet and salty contrast.
  5. Set and serve: Place the assembled bars in the refrigerator and chill until both the caramel and chocolate layers are fully set, about 1 hour. Once set, break or cut into bars or pieces. Serve chilled or at room temperature.

Notes

  • Use high-quality chocolate chips for the best flavor and smooth melt.
  • Make sure to stir frequently when melting chocolate and caramel to prevent scorching.
  • The pretzels add a wonderful crunch and salty contrast; feel free to substitute mini pretzels with pretzel sticks if preferred.
  • Store finished bars in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
  • Allow bars to sit at room temperature a few minutes before serving for easier biting.
