Description
This fun and spooky Oreo Cookie Spiders recipe creates adorable Halloween-themed treats perfect for parties or festive snacks. Using classic Oreo cookies, black licorice for legs, candy eyes, and candy corn fangs, these no-bake spider treats come together quickly and delight kids and adults alike.
Ingredients
Spider Base
- 16 Oreo cookies
Legs
- Rope black licorice (cut into 2-inch pieces, approximately 128 pieces)
Eyes
- 32 candy eyes
- 4 ounces white icing
Fangs
- 32 pieces of candy corn
Instructions
- Prepare Baking Sheet: Place parchment paper on a baking sheet to keep your workspace clean and the cookies in place while decorating.
- Separate Oreos: Gently pull apart the Oreo cookies to separate the halves without breaking them, and place the halves with filling on the prepared baking sheet.
- Cut Licorice Legs: Cut the black licorice rope into 2-inch pieces. You will need 8 pieces per cookie, totaling 128 pieces. These will be the spider legs.
- Attach Legs: Place 4 pieces of licorice on each side of the Oreo cookie half with the filling, positioning them as spider legs. Then put a dime-sized amount of white icing on the inside of the matching Oreo cookie top (the side without filling), and press it back onto the cookie with the licorice legs in place.
- Add Eyes: Using a toothpick, place a pea-sized amount of white icing on the back of each candy eye, then attach two eyes on top of each assembled cookie spider to create the spider's eyes.
- Prepare Fangs: Cut each piece of candy corn just above where the white tip ends, leaving a bit of orange visible for a black and orange look.
- Attach Fangs: Insert the candy corn tips into the front part of the cookie filling, between the two sets of licorice legs, to create the spider’s fangs.
Notes
- Be gentle when separating Oreo cookies to prevent breaking the cookie halves.
- Use white icing that hardens slightly for better adhesion of eyes and cookie tops.
- For a stronger hold, refrigerate the assembled spiders before serving.
- These treats are best enjoyed the same day to keep licorice legs firm and candy corn fresh.
