Description
Delicious and easy-to-make Oreo Balls, also known as Oreo Truffles, combine crushed Oreo cookies and cream cheese dipped in smooth melted chocolate. Perfect for parties or a sweet treat, these no-bake delights offer a creamy, crunchy texture coated in a rich chocolate shell.
Ingredients
Oreo Balls
- 36 Oreos (original, not Double Stuf), plus 3 more for topping if desired
- 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
- 16 oz vanilla or chocolate candy melts (or melted white chocolate, milk chocolate, or dark chocolate)
Instructions
- Prepare the baking sheet: Line an 18 by 13-inch baking sheet with wax paper or parchment paper to prevent the truffles from sticking.
- Crush the Oreos: Place 36 Oreos into a food processor whole, including the cream filling, and pulse until the cookies are crushed into fine crumbs.
- Mix with cream cheese: Add the softened cream cheese to the Oreo crumbs and pulse in bursts until the mixture is well combined and forms a dough-like consistency.
- Form balls: Scoop out the mixture about 1 tablespoon at a time and roll into 1-inch balls. Place the balls evenly spaced on the prepared baking sheet.
- Freeze the balls: Freeze the Oreo balls for 15 minutes to firm them up. While they chill, crush the remaining 3 Oreos for topping if desired.
- Melt the chocolate: Melt the candy melts or chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl according to package directions until smooth.
- Dip the truffles: Remove the truffles from the freezer and dip each one into the melted chocolate. Use a spoon to drizzle chocolate over the top and lift the truffle, letting excess chocolate drip off.
- Decorate and set: Return the dipped truffles to the baking sheet and immediately sprinkle with crushed Oreos if desired. Allow the chocolate coating to set completely at room temperature.
- Store: Once set, store the Oreo balls in an airtight container in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
Notes
- For a peppermint variation, add a few drops of peppermint extract to the melted chocolate before dipping.
- You can use any type of candy melts or chocolate you prefer, such as dark, milk, or white chocolate.
- Ensure the cream cheese is softened to room temperature for smooth blending.
- If you don’t have a food processor, you can crush Oreos by placing them in a sealed bag and crushing with a rolling pin.
- These truffles keep well refrigerated for up to a week.
