Description

This quick and easy Matzo Pizza recipe transforms a simple matzo square into a delicious personal pizza topped with marinara sauce, melted mozzarella cheese, and fresh basil. Perfect for a fast snack or light meal, this dish combines convenience with classic pizza flavors and a crisp, crunchy base.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1 matzo square
  • 3 tablespoons jarred pizza or marinara sauce
  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese (or other cheese of choice; vegan cheese can be used)
  • 1-2 fresh basil leaves, julienned (or substitute with a pinch of dried basil or oregano)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil to make cleanup easier.
  2. Prepare Matzo Base: Place the matzo square on the prepared baking sheet, then spread the marinara sauce evenly over the matzo, leaving about a 1/8-inch border around the edges to prevent sauce from spilling over.
  3. Add Cheese: Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the sauce-covered matzo square.
  4. Bake Pizza: Bake in the preheated oven for 5 to 6 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and just begins to bubble and brown slightly.
  5. Finish with Basil: Remove the pizza from the oven and top with the julienned fresh basil leaves. Let it cool for a couple of minutes before serving to avoid burning from the hot cheese.

Notes

  • Use vegan cheese for a dairy-free option.
  • Substitute fresh basil with dried basil or oregano if fresh herbs are not available.
  • Be careful not to overload the matzo with sauce to prevent sogginess.
  • Matzo pizza is best enjoyed fresh out of the oven for optimal texture and flavor.
