Description

This classic Magic Cookie Bars recipe is a beloved sweet treat known for its rich and layered flavors. Combining a buttery graham cracker crust with chopped walnuts, semisweet chocolate chips, flaked coconut, and sweetened condensed milk, these bars bake to a golden, chewy perfection. Perfect for family gatherings or potlucks, these bars are easy to prepare and always a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Base

  • ½ cup butter or margarine, melted
  • 1 ½ cups graham cracker crumbs

Toppings

  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 ⅓ cups flaked coconut
  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients and Oven: Gather all ingredients and preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C) to ensure it's at the right temperature when you're ready to bake.
  2. Create the Base Layer: Pour the melted butter evenly into a 9x13-inch baking dish. Sprinkle the graham cracker crumbs over the melted butter, pressing lightly to form an even crust.
  3. Add Nut and Chocolate Layers: Evenly sprinkle the chopped walnuts on top of the graham cracker crust, followed by an even layer of semisweet chocolate chips.
  4. Top with Coconut and Condensed Milk: Spread the flaked coconut evenly over the chocolate chips. Finally, pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over all the layers, making sure it covers the toppings.
  5. Bake the Bars: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25 minutes, or until the top is lightly browned and bubbly.
  6. Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and allow the bars to cool for at least 15 minutes in the baking dish. Once cooled, cut into finger-length bars and serve.

Notes

  • You can substitute walnuts with pecans or omit nuts for a nut-free version.
  • Use sweetened coconut flakes for a sweeter and chewier texture or unsweetened for less sweetness.
  • Store bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to one week.
  • For easier cutting, chill the bars for 30 minutes before slicing.
