Ingredients
Syrup
- 1 cup apple cider (NOT apple cider vinegar!)
- 1/2 cup maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 apple (sliced)
Latte
- 1/2 cup chai concentrate (sweetened or unsweetened)
- 1/3 cup barista style oat milk
- 1-2 tablespoons apple crisp syrup (optional for unsweetened chai)
Cold Foam
- 1/3 cup barista style oat milk
- 2-3 tablespoons apple crisp syrup
Instructions
- Make the Syrup: Combine the apple cider, maple syrup, cinnamon, and sliced apple in a saucepan and bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat.
- Cook the Syrup: Continue to cook, stirring occasionally, for approximately 10 minutes until the syrup has slightly reduced and thickened, allowing flavors to concentrate.
- Smash Apples: Remove the saucepan from heat and carefully mash the cooked apples into the syrup to release their flavor and texture.
- Cool the Syrup: Let the syrup cool completely to room temperature to prepare it for straining and storing.
- Strain and Store: Strain the syrup through a fine mesh strainer to remove apple solids, then transfer the liquid to an airtight container for storage.
- Prepare the Latte: In a glass or mixing vessel, combine the chai concentrate and 1/3 cup barista style oat milk. Add apple crisp syrup to taste if the chai is unsweetened, and stir well.
- Serve over Ice: Pour the chai latte mixture over ice in a large glass, leaving room at the top for the cold foam.
- Make the Cold Foam: In a separate small glass, mix 1/3 cup barista style oat milk with 2-3 tablespoons apple crisp syrup until combined.
- Froth the Milk: Use a milk frother to froth the oat milk mixture until thick, foamy, and bubbly.
- Top the Latte: Pour the frothed apple crisp oat milk foam over the chai latte, sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon on top, and enjoy this delicious iced apple crisp cream chai.
Notes
- Apple cider must not be substituted with apple cider vinegar to maintain the sweet and fruity flavor.
- Adjust the amount of apple crisp syrup to your preferred level of sweetness, especially if using unsweetened chai concentrate.
- Barista style oat milk is recommended for better frothing and creaminess but regular oat milk can be used in a pinch.
- Use a fine mesh strainer to ensure syrup is smooth without apple chunks.
- Serve immediately after assembling for the best texture and flavor balance.
