Ingredients
Glaze
- 1/3 cup honey
- 1/4 cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
Salmon
- 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, divided
- 4 (6-ounce) salmon fillets, patted dry with paper towels
- Kosher salt, to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 lemon, thinly sliced into rounds
Instructions
- Prepare the glaze: In a medium bowl, whisk together the honey, reduced-sodium soy sauce, fresh lemon juice, and crushed red pepper flakes until well combined and set aside.
- Sear the salmon: Heat 2 tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot but not smoking, place the salmon fillets skin side up in the skillet. Season each fillet with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper. Cook for about 2 minutes until the flesh is just heated through and has a nice sear.
- Flip and add aromatics: Carefully flip the salmon fillets skin side down in the skillet. Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil followed by the minced garlic. Cook for about 1 minute until the garlic becomes fragrant, stirring gently to avoid burning.
- Glaze and finish cooking: Pour the prepared honey mixture and lemon slices into the skillet. Cook, occasionally basting the salmon with the sauce, until the sauce has reduced by approximately one-third and thickened slightly, about 3 minutes. The salmon should be cooked through and glazed nicely.
Notes
- Pat salmon fillets dry before cooking to ensure a good sear and prevent sticking.
- Adjust crushed red pepper flakes according to your preferred spice level.
- Use reduced-sodium soy sauce to control the saltiness of the dish.
- Serve with steamed vegetables or rice to make a complete meal.
- For a more intense lemon flavor, squeeze a bit of fresh lemon juice on the cooked salmon before serving.
