Description

These Honey Buffalo Wings offer the perfect balance of sweet and spicy with a crispy finish. Cooked either in the oven or air fryer for a healthier yet delicious alternative to deep-fried wings, they are tossed in a luscious honey buffalo sauce and garnished with fresh chives for an irresistible appetizer or snack.

Ingredients

Chicken Wings

  • 12-14 split chicken wings (about 1 lb)
  • 2 tsp corn starch
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ¼ tsp cumin
  • ¼ tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Black pepper to taste

Honey Buffalo Sauce

  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 3 Tbsp honey
  • ¼ cup Buffalo sauce
  • ½ tsp garlic powder

Garnish

  • Diced chives

Instructions

  1. Pre-heat oven or air fryer: For oven cooking, position the oven rack in the middle and preheat to 425°F. Line a baking tray with aluminum foil and set aside. For air fryer cooking, preheat to 400°F for 2 minutes.
  2. Dry wings: Pat the chicken wings dry thoroughly with paper towels to ensure crispiness during cooking and place them in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Season wings: In a small bowl, whisk together corn starch, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, cumin, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Add the seasoning mixture to the large bowl with chicken wings and toss well, using your hands to rub the spices evenly onto each wing.
  4. Cook wings: For oven, arrange wings on the prepared baking tray in a single layer without overlapping. Bake for 25-35 minutes, flipping halfway through, until wings are deeply browned and crisp. For air fryer, place wings in the basket in a single layer without overlap; cook in two batches if necessary. Cook 10 minutes, toss wings, then cook an additional 5-10 minutes until browned and crisp. Adjust cooking time based on wing size.
  5. Prepare honey buffalo sauce: While the wings cook, combine butter, honey, Buffalo sauce, and garlic powder in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally until smooth and fully combined. Remove from heat and set aside.
  6. Toss wings with sauce: Immediately after cooking, transfer the wings into a clean large mixing bowl. Pour the warm honey buffalo sauce over the wings and toss thoroughly to coat each wing evenly. Sprinkle diced chives on top, and serve hot.

Notes

  • Ensure wings are completely dry before seasoning for maximum crispiness.
  • The cooking time may vary based on wing size; always check for internal temperature of 165°F for safety.
  • If using an air fryer, avoid overcrowding to allow even cooking and crisping.
  • You can adjust the honey and hot sauce ratio to tailor sweetness and spiciness to your preference.
