Description
This homemade Catalina dressing recipe offers a tangy, slightly sweet, and savory dressing perfect for salads or as a dip. Made from simple pantry staples and blended to a smooth consistency, it replicates the popular restaurant-style Catalina dressing with fresh, wholesome ingredients.
Ingredients
Vinegar and Condiments
- ½ cup red wine vinegar
- ⅓ cup ketchup
- ¼ cup agave or honey (or granulated sugar)
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Spices and Seasonings
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
Oils
- ½ cup olive oil or grape seed oil
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients Except Oil: In a blender or food processor, add red wine vinegar, ketchup, agave or honey, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, and salt. Ensure all dry and wet ingredients are combined before adding the oil.
- Begin Blending: Blend the mixture on a low speed to start emulsifying the components smoothly while preventing splatter.
- Add Oil Slowly: With the blender still running on low, open the small lid on top and gradually pour in the olive oil or grape seed oil. This slow addition helps the dressing emulsify and achieve a creamy texture.
- Continue Blending: After all the oil is added, blend the dressing for another 30 seconds to fully incorporate the oil and spices into a smooth, homogenous mixture.
- Adjust Seasoning and Store: Taste the dressing and adjust seasoning with additional salt if needed. Transfer the dressing into a lidded jar and refrigerate. Use within 2 weeks for best freshness.
Notes
- You can use agave, honey, or granulated sugar as sweeteners depending on your preference.
- Substituting grape seed oil will yield a lighter flavor compared to olive oil.
- The dressing can be stored refrigerated in an airtight jar for up to 2 weeks.
- For a thicker consistency, reduce the vinegar slightly or increase oil.
- Shake or stir well before each use as the dressing may separate over time.
