Description
A delicious and indulgent Goat Cheese Grilled Cheese sandwich elevated with the creamy tang of goat cheese, rich white cheddar, a drizzle of sweet honey, and a kick of red pepper flakes. This easy-to-make sandwich is infused with buttery, spicy flavors and cooked to a perfect golden crisp on the stovetop.
Ingredients
Bread
- 2 slices thick, good quality white bread (preferably crusty French loaf)
Cheeses
- 2 oz goat cheese, crumbled
- 2 oz white cheddar, shredded (can substitute shredded mozzarella)
Other Ingredients
- 2 tbsp liquid honey, divided in half
- 3 tbsp butter, melted
- ⅛ tsp red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
Instructions
- Infuse Butter: Melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium-low heat together with the red pepper flakes. Let it cook for about five minutes to infuse the buttery flavor with the spicy flakes, making sure not to let the butter burn. Carefully transfer the infused melted butter to a small bowl, and set aside the pan for grilling the sandwich without washing it.
- Butter the Bread: Using a pastry brush or the back of a spoon, spread the infused butter on one side of both slices of bread. You may not use all the butter in this step.
- Assemble Sandwich: Reheat the pan over medium heat. Place one slice of bread buttered-side down in the pan. Evenly distribute the crumbled goat cheese and shredded white cheddar on top of this bread slice. Drizzle one tablespoon of honey over the cheeses. Place the other slice of bread on top, buttered side facing out, to complete the sandwich.
- Cook Covered: Cover the pan with a lid to trap heat and help melt the cheese thoroughly. Cook the sandwich for 5-7 minutes or until the bread slices are golden brown and toasted on the bottom and the cheeses have melted completely.
- Finish and Serve: Remove the sandwich from the pan. Drizzle the remaining tablespoon of honey over the top. For extra spice, sprinkle additional red pepper flakes over the sandwich if desired. Slice in half, serve immediately, and enjoy the perfect balance of sweet, spicy, and cheesy flavors.
Notes
- Use thick, crusty bread like a French loaf for best texture and flavor.
- You can substitute shredded mozzarella for cheddar if preferred.
- Adjust red pepper flakes to control the spice level.
- Covering the pan helps cheese melt evenly but watch to avoid burning the bread.
- For a crispier crust, you can cook on slightly lower heat for longer.
- Store leftovers wrapped in foil and reheat gently in a pan to retain crispness.
