It's a quick and easy recipe ideal for complementing a variety of meals, offering a rich and cheesy taste with a hint of garlic aroma.
Ingredients
Rice and Seasoning
- 1 cup long grain rice (rinsed and drained)
- 2 cups chicken broth (can substitute vegetable broth or water)
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon granulated garlic
- Salt and pepper to taste
Butter and Dairy
- 4 tablespoons butter (divided)
- 4 tablespoons whole milk
- ½ cup shredded parmesan cheese (plus more for serving)
Flavoring
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- Parsley, green onions, or chives (optional garnish)
Instructions
- Sauté Garlic: In a medium skillet over medium heat, melt 3 tablespoons of butter. Add the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant and lightly golden, being careful not to burn it.
- Toast Rice: Add the rinsed and drained rice to the skillet, stirring constantly over medium heat for 3-4 minutes. Toast the rice evenly while preventing it from burning by stirring frequently.
- Add Broth and Seasonings: Pour in the chicken broth, then add the onion powder and granulated garlic. Stir everything together until fully blended.
- Simmer the Rice: Reduce heat to low and loosely cover the skillet. Let the rice simmer, stirring every few minutes to prevent sticking, for 10 to 15 minutes or until the rice is tender and has absorbed most of the liquid.
- Finish with Butter, Cheese, and Milk: Remove the skillet from heat. Stir in the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter, the shredded parmesan cheese, and whole milk until well combined, creating a creamy texture.
- Season and Serve: Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper to taste. Garnish with fresh parsley or green onions and additional parmesan cheese if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy.
Notes
- Rinsing the rice removes excess starch, resulting in fluffier rice.
- Toast the rice carefully to avoid burning, which can impart a bitter taste.
- You can substitute chicken broth with vegetable broth or water for a different flavor or dietary preference.
- For a dairy-free version, substitute butter and milk with plant-based alternatives and omit parmesan or use a vegan cheese.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated gently with a splash of broth or milk.
