Description

This edible brownie batter is a quick, delicious treat that's rich, fudgy, and can be customized with your favorite mix-ins. Made without eggs and safe to eat due to heat-treated flour, it's perfect for satisfying those brownie batter cravings in just 10 minutes.

Ingredients

Wet Ingredients

  • ⅓ cup butter (regular or vegan), melted
  • ½ cup light brown sugar
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3-6 tbsp milk (regular or vegan), as needed

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (or white whole wheat flour), heat treated
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¼ tsp salt

Optional Mix-Ins

  • ¼-⅓ cup chopped chocolate or chocolate chips (regular or vegan)

Instructions

  1. Heat Treat the Flour: Place about 1 cup of flour in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave for 1-2 minutes or spread it on a baking sheet and bake at 350°F (177°C) for 5 minutes. Allow the flour to cool completely before using to ensure it is safe to eat.
  2. Melt Butter and Combine Sugars: In a medium microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter. Whisk in the light brown sugar and granulated sugar until fully combined and smooth. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. Mix Dry Ingredients: Add the heat-treated flour, cocoa powder, and salt to the wet mixture. Mix until just combined to form a thick batter.
  4. Add Milk Gradually: Stir in 3 tablespoons of milk to start, then add more milk one tablespoon at a time until the batter reaches your desired consistency—rich and fudgy but scoopable.
  5. Incorporate Mix-Ins and Serve: Fold in the chopped chocolate or chocolate chips or any desired toppings. Enjoy immediately or chill as desired.

Notes

  • Heat Treating Flour: Since raw flour can contain harmful bacteria, heat treat about one-third cup more flour than needed by microwaving or baking, then cool before using.
  • Milk Options: Use any milk you prefer—dairy or plant-based. Add milk gradually to control batter texture.
  • Mix-In Variations: Experiment with mini chocolate chips, sprinkles, crushed Oreos, chopped peanut butter cups, peanut butter chips, white chocolate chips, or nuts for a personalized touch.
  • Storage: Store batter covered in the fridge for up to 1 week. It will firm up and should be softened at room temperature for about 20 minutes before eating. Freeze formed balls wrapped in plastic and stored in a ziplock bag for up to 2 months.
