Tender chicken cubes are marinated and grilled to perfection, then brushed with a sticky, sweet, and tangy honey garlic sauce that enhances every bite. Whether cooked on the grill or baked in the oven, these skewers deliver delicious Asian-inspired flavors with minimal effort.

Ingredients

Chicken Skewers

  • 1 pound boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • Bamboo skewers, soaked in water for 30 minutes

Honey Garlic Sauce

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water (60 ml)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Grill/Oven: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat or your oven to 400°F (200°C) to prepare for cooking the chicken skewers.
  2. Prepare the Chicken: Thread the chicken cubes onto the soaked bamboo skewers, leaving small spaces between each cube to ensure even cooking and prevent sticking.
  3. Make the Honey Garlic Sauce: In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute. Whisk in honey, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, and brown sugar, then bring the mixture to a simmer. Dissolve cornstarch in water and stir into the sauce. Cook until thickened, approximately 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat.
  4. Cook the Chicken Skewers:
  5. Grill Method: Place the skewers on the preheated grill and cook for 5-7 minutes per side until the chicken is fully cooked through and has a slight char on the edges. In the final few minutes of grilling, brush the honey garlic sauce over the skewers for added flavor and glaze.
  6. Oven Method: Place the skewers on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. Afterward, brush with the honey garlic sauce and broil for an additional 2-3 minutes to develop a shiny glaze and slight caramelization.
  7. Rest and Serve: Allow the skewers to rest a few minutes before serving. Serve with extra honey garlic sauce on the side for dipping to enhance taste.

Notes

  • Soaking bamboo skewers in water prevents them from burning during grilling or broiling.
  • Cooking times may vary based on the size of chicken pieces and grill/oven temperature, always ensure chicken is cooked to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  • For a spicier kick, add crushed red pepper flakes to the honey garlic sauce.
  • Can be served with steamed rice, grilled vegetables, or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
  • Leftover skewers and sauce can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
