Ingredients
Apple Fries
- 2 large apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or your favorite variety)
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs (or regular breadcrumbs)
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- Cooking spray
Dipping Sauce (Optional)
- 1/2 cup caramel sauce
- 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt (optional for a lighter option)
Instructions
- Prepare the Apples: Peel the apples if desired and slice them into wedges about 1/2 inch thick. Remove the core and seeds. In a small bowl, combine the cinnamon and sugar; set this mixture aside for later use.
- Set Up the Breading Station: Place the flour in one bowl, the beaten eggs in another, and the panko breadcrumbs in a third bowl. Mix half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture into the breadcrumbs until evenly blended.
- Coat the Apple Slices: Dredge each apple slice first in the flour, shaking off any excess. Then dip it fully into the beaten eggs. Press the slice into the cinnamon-sugar breadcrumb mixture, making sure it is evenly coated on all sides. Repeat this process for all apple slices.
- Air Fry: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3 minutes. Arrange the breaded apple slices in a single layer inside the air fryer basket, making sure they don’t overlap. Lightly spray the slices with cooking spray. Air fry for 8 to 10 minutes, flipping the slices halfway through, until they are golden brown and crispy.
- Serve: While the apple fries are still warm, sprinkle them with the remaining cinnamon-sugar mixture for extra sweetness. Serve immediately with caramel sauce or vanilla yogurt for dipping.
Notes
- Use firmer apple varieties like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for best texture.
- Peeling the apples is optional based on your texture preference.
- Make sure to spray the apple slices lightly with cooking spray to achieve maximum crispiness.
- If you don’t have panko breadcrumbs, regular breadcrumbs will work but the fries might be less crispy.
- The dipping sauces are optional but add a delicious flavor contrast.
- Flip the apple fries halfway during air frying to ensure even cooking and browning.
