Description

This creamy Alfredo sauce recipe takes just 15 minutes to prepare and yields a rich, smooth sauce perfect for tossing with pasta or drizzling over vegetables. Made with butter, garlic, heavy cream, and freshly grated parmesan cheese, it's a classic Italian-inspired sauce that's simple to make and irresistibly flavorful.

Ingredients

Alfredo Sauce Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, finely minced or pressed
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 1/2 cups parmesan cheese, finely grated

Instructions

  1. Infuse butter with garlic: Add 4 tablespoons of butter and 4 cloves of finely minced garlic to a sauté pan. Heat over low heat gently to infuse the butter with garlic flavor. Cook for about 5 minutes until fragrant, making sure not to brown the garlic.
  2. Add heavy cream and simmer: Pour in 1 1/2 cups of heavy cream and stir to combine. Allow the mixture to come to a gentle simmer, increasing the heat slightly if needed. Continue cooking for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent scorching.
  3. Incorporate parmesan cheese: Remove the pan from the heat and immediately stir in 1 1/2 cups of finely grated parmesan cheese. Stir well until the cheese melts and the sauce becomes creamy and smooth. If you used pre-grated cheese that’s thicker, you may need to return the pan to low heat briefly to help it melt completely. If the sauce is too thick, add a bit more heavy cream to thin it to your desired consistency.
  4. Serve: Toss the Alfredo sauce with freshly cooked pasta or use it to dress steamed or roasted vegetables for a rich and comforting meal.

Notes

  • Use freshly grated parmesan cheese from a block for the best melting and smoothest texture.
  • Cook the garlic on low heat to avoid burning and bitterness.
  • If the sauce is too thick, gradually add more heavy cream until you reach your preferred consistency.
  • This sauce is best served immediately but can be gently reheated over low heat with a splash of cream to restore creaminess.
  • For a lighter version, you can substitute half-and-half for heavy cream, but the sauce will be less rich.
