Description

This homemade Chocolate Granola recipe offers a rich and satisfying blend of oats, flaxseeds, and dark chocolate, baked to crispy perfection with a hint of cocoa and cinnamon. It's a delicious, wholesome snack or breakfast topping that's naturally sweetened with honey and enhanced with the nutritious benefits of flaxseeds and coconut oil.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 4 cups rolled oats
  • ½ cup flaxseeds
  • 5 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup dark chocolate, chopped

Wet Ingredients

  • ⅓ cup coconut oil, melted
  • ⅓ cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 275°F (135°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
  2. Make Chocolate Paste: In a large bowl, thoroughly combine melted coconut oil, honey, vanilla extract, cocoa powder, salt, and cinnamon until a smooth, even paste forms without any lumps.
  3. Add Dry Ingredients: Gently fold in the rolled oats and flaxseeds into the chocolate paste, ensuring all oats are well coated to get that rich chocolate flavor throughout.
  4. Spread Mixture: Transfer the chocolate oat mixture onto the prepared baking sheet and spread it into an even layer to ensure uniform baking.
  5. Bake: Bake in the oven for 50 minutes, stirring once halfway through (around 30 minutes) to redistribute the oats for even cooking and prevent burning.
  6. Add Chocolate Chunks: Remove the granola from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chopped dark chocolate over the hot granola. Stir gently just a few times to create clusters as the chocolate slightly melts and binds the granola.
  7. Cool and Store: Let the granola cool completely on the baking sheet before transferring it to an airtight container. Store at room temperature to keep it crisp. This recipe yields about 6 cups of granola, enough for 15 servings.

Notes

  • Use parchment paper to prevent sticking and ease cleanup.
  • Stir halfway during baking to ensure even toasting and prevent burning.
  • Adjust honey quantity for sweetness preference.
  • Use dark chocolate with at least 70% cacao for optimal flavor and less sweetness.
  • Store in an airtight container to maintain crunchiness for up to two weeks.
  • Can be served with yogurt, milk, or as a snack on its own.
