Description
This Chicken Alfredo Casserole is a creamy, comforting dish combining tender chicken, perfectly cooked penne pasta, and rich Alfredo sauce baked with a melty mozzarella and cheddar cheese topping. Easy to prepare and family-friendly, it makes a delicious meal that even toddlers love.
Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 3 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves
- 1 (8 ounce) package penne pasta
- ½ (16 ounce) jar Alfredo sauce
- 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
- ¼ cup milk
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) to prepare for baking the casserole.
- Cook the chicken: Place the chicken breasts into a pot and cover completely with water. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to a simmer. Cook until the chicken is no longer pink in the center and the juices run clear, about 15 minutes. Drain the cooked chicken and cut into bite-sized pieces.
- Cook the pasta: While the chicken is cooking, bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add the penne pasta and cook, stirring occasionally, until tender but still firm to the bite, around 11 minutes. Drain the pasta thoroughly.
- Combine ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked chicken, drained pasta, Alfredo sauce, half of the shredded mozzarella cheese, milk, onion powder, and garlic powder. Stir everything well until evenly mixed.
- Assemble casserole: Pour the mixture into a 1 1/2-quart casserole dish. Evenly layer the remaining mozzarella cheese and shredded Cheddar cheese on top of the mixture.
- Bake: Place the casserole dish in the preheated oven and bake until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly golden, about 25 minutes.
Notes
- You can substitute penne pasta with other medium pasta types such as ziti or large elbow macaroni based on your preference.
- If you want to use the full jar of Alfredo sauce, swirl the milk inside the jar to incorporate every bit of sauce.
- This dish is suitable for the whole family and is mild enough for toddlers.
