Description
Delicious and easy Bang Bang Chicken Skewers with a creamy, spicy, and sweet bang bang sauce. Perfectly cooked in the air fryer for a healthy, crispy finish, these skewers are great for appetizers or a light meal.
Ingredients
Chicken and Seasonings
- 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- Wooden skewers, soaked in water for 30 minutes
Bang Bang Sauce
- 1 ¼ cups (290 g) mayonnaise
- ⅔ cup Thai sweet chili sauce
- 2 teaspoons Sriracha (or more to taste)
- 2 tablespoons honey
Instructions
- Toss chicken with seasonings. In a large bowl, combine the cubed chicken breasts, olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, kosher salt, and black pepper. Toss everything together until the chicken is evenly coated with the seasonings.
- Thread chicken onto skewers. Take the soaked wooden skewers and thread 4-5 chicken cubes onto each skewer, working one at a time to keep the pieces evenly spaced.
- Make the bang bang sauce. In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, Thai sweet chili sauce, Sriracha, and honey. Stir well until smooth. This will yield about 1 ¾ cups of sauce.
- Brush sauce over chicken. Divide the sauce in half. Pour half into a separate bowl and set aside for serving later. Use the remaining half to brush evenly over all sides of the chicken on the skewers.
- Place skewers in air fryer basket. Arrange the chicken skewers in a single layer inside the air fryer basket. Depending on your air fryer size, cook in batches to avoid overcrowding.
- Air fry the chicken. Cook at 400°F (204°C) for 11-12 minutes, flipping the skewers halfway through cooking. Ensure the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165°F (74°C) for safe consumption.
- Drizzle with reserved sauce and serve. Once cooked, transfer the skewers to a serving plate and drizzle or brush the reserved bang bang sauce over the chicken. Serve immediately for best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Soak the wooden skewers in water for at least 30 minutes before threading the chicken to prevent burning during air frying.
- Adjust the amount of Sriracha in the sauce to control the level of spiciness.
- If you don't have an air fryer, these skewers can be grilled or broiled, but cooking times may vary.
- Make sure not to overcrowd the air fryer basket to ensure even cooking and crispiness.
- The sauce can be made ahead and refrigerated for up to 2 days for convenience.
