Description

This simple Balsamic Glaze recipe transforms balsamic vinegar into a rich, syrupy reduction perfect for drizzling over salads, roasted vegetables, grilled meats, and even desserts. Sweetened optionally with brown sugar, this glaze adds a tangy-sweet depth and a beautiful glossy finish to your dishes.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 2 cups balsamic vinegar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar (optional, for sweetness)

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: Pour the balsamic vinegar and brown sugar (if using) into a medium saucepan placed over medium heat.
  2. Bring to a Boil: Heat the mixture until it reaches a gentle boil, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar.
  3. Simmer and Reduce: Lower the heat to medium-low and let the mixture simmer for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent burning. The vinegar will reduce and thicken to a syrupy consistency.
  4. Check Consistency: Test the glaze by dipping a spoon into it and lifting it out; it should coat the back of the spoon and drip slowly. If it's too thin, continue simmering; if too thick, thin with a splash of water or additional balsamic vinegar.
  5. Cool the Glaze: Remove the pan from heat and allow the glaze to cool for a few minutes, then transfer it into a clean, airtight container to cool completely, thickening further as it cools.

Notes

  • The brown sugar is optional and can be omitted for a more tart flavor.
  • Use a heat-resistant spoon to stir and test the glaze.
  • Store the glaze in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
  • Be careful not to over-reduce, as the glaze can become too thick and syrupy.
  • Add a little water if the glaze stiffens too much after cooling.
